Only 13% of the world’s 200 million managers are able to build high-performing teams where people love to work.
The rest have either never been taught or worse 😱 they’ve learned Linear Leadership. You know, top-down, command-and-control, goal oriented leadership. Which is sometimes okay in an emergency:
“Stop what you’re doing!
Go to the exits NOW!
Move! Move! Move!”
But it never works for team-building:
“Stop what you’re doing!
Finish the Alpha project NOW!
Move! Move! Move!”
Sheesh. 🙄 There’s got to be a better way.
The Circular Leader™ Newsletter
I’ve been measuring leadership’s influence on people and performance for years in organizations of all shapes and sizes and industries in dozens of countries.
Here’s everything I know in three guiding principles:
1. Set expectations for your team clearly. Really clearly.
2. Frequently ensure that everyone who reports to you feels supported, heard and appreciated by you.
3. Reguarly ensure that the people on your team feel comfortable talking about any topic especially the tough stuff.
Bonus Principle: If you do the above consistently well you won’t have to worry about performance. Your team will look after it for you.
If you can remember those principles, you’re well on your way. And if you want to learn more, that’s what The Circular Leader™ newsletter is all about.
Join me for regular discussions that will change how you lead.
